AkelPad 4 - User's Manual

Compatibility

Programs is intended to work under Windows 95/98/Me and Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP/2003/Vista/Seven.

General remarks

Notepad is a wonderful editor, being used to edit files in plain text format, thus it is irreplaceable for programming, designing of Web documents, and so on. However, the one comprised in Windows, is very inconvenient due to several limitations. This program claims to be able to fill up these drawbacks.
Attention: this program takes a lot of advantages from Unicode representation. It is strongly recommended that you set up TrueType font (as Courier New) to gain more advantages from this feature.

Features

As long as the program is intended to replace standard Notepad, it's target is plain text files, it doesn't support RTF files and so on - it isn't a drawback, it's a feature. Brief description of general features:

Single window mode (SDI), multi window mode (MDI);
Editing of files, which size is more than 64K (generally speaking, size isn't theoretically limited);
Full support of Unicode strings on Unicode systems (NT/2000/XP/2003);
Support of Unicode codepages (UTF-16 little endian, UTF-16 big endian, UTF-8);
Support of any codepage installed in the system;
Support of DOS/Windows, Unix and Mac newline formats;
Preview file open;
Correct pseudographics displaying;
Column text selection;
Multi-level undo;
Fast search/replace text strings;
Remember file codepage and caret position;
Printing of a document and print preview;
Support of language modules;
Plugins support (syntax highlighting, folding, auto-completion, scripts execution, keyboard macros and much more).

Command line parameters

AkelPad.exe [options] "file1.ext" "file2.ext" ...

/p	- print
/c+	- silently create new file, if doesn't exist
/c-	- don't create new file, if doesn't exist
/b+	- silently open file, if binary
/b-	- don't open file, if binary
/x	- don't use MS Notepad compatibility mode when parse command line parameters
/reassoc	- reinstall assigned earlier associations of file types
/deassoc	- uninstall assigned earlier associations of file types
/quit	- stop parsing command line parameters and close program
/end	- stop parsing command line parameters

Manual settings

Settings are saved in AkelPad.ini or in registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Akelsoft\AkelPad).

ShowModify	Defines, where it will be possible to see, that the document is changed. Sets by the sum of members: 1 - Display "Modified" in status bar. 2 - Display asterisk * in main window title (SDI). 4 - Display asterisk * in frame window title (MDI). 8 - Display asterisk * in tab button name (MDI). By default: 1+8=9, show all: 1+2+4+8=15.
StatusPosType	Defines how status bar statistics will be displayed. Sets by the sum of members: 1 - "Line:Column". By default: "Line:Symbol". 2 - Wrap line numbers. By default: Non-wrap line numbers. By default: 0.
WordBreak	Defines how the caret on Ctrl+Left/Ctrl+Right will move. Works only if enabled "Word delimiters" in settings (WordDelimitersEnable=1). Sets by the sum of members: 1 - Left movement is stopped, when word start is found. 2 - Left movement is stopped, when word end is found. 4 - Right movement is stopped, when word start is found. 8 - Right movement is stopped, when word end is found. 16 - Movement is stopped, when spacing start is found. Cannot be combined with 64. 32 - Movement is stopped, when spacing end is found. Cannot be combined with 128. 64 - Movement is continued, when spacing start is found. Cannot be combined with 16. 128 - Movement is continued, when spacing end is found. Cannot be combined with 32. 256 - Movement is stopped, when new line is found. By default: 1+2+4+8+32+64=111 (AkelEdit), 1+8=9 (AkelPad).
RichEditClass	Defines edit control class name: 0 - "AkelEdit". 1 - "RichEdit20". By default: 0.
